Post Reach: A Popularity Contest where you Fight YOURSELF
What is "Post Reach" and how does it affect my presence online?
"Post Reach" is the overall total people that were "exposed" to your post. Whether it's a quick scroll past the post, or someone liking, sharing or engaging your post, "Reach" is a larger METRIC that lets you know if your advertising, posts, or content are effective.
Many different Social Media platforms measure reach. Google's Blogger, WordPress, Facebook, Youtube, Instagram, and even Twitter. There are also "all in one" tools (applications) you can pay for that help you measure all of your metrics. Side Note: There are also "all-in-one" tools that allow you to view a condensed version of "how you're doing online" that are very thorough. However, unless you're a celebrity or a billion dollar company, there's no reason to invest in these massive applications that have a steep learning curve.<---side a="" and="" billion="" celebrity="" company="" curve.="" dollar="" have="" in="" invest="" learning="" most="" no="" note:="" of="" or="" re="" reason="" s="" span="" steep="" there="" those="" to="" tools="" unless="" you="">---side>
Taking a look at your posts REACH, and then viewing the overall ENGAGEMENT allows you to better tailor your content and presence online.
The examples below show that CheapGeek is doing well, with some decline during off periods throughout the week. CreepGeeks Podcast had a significant spike in May, but then dropped. So, the best plan of action is to go back to what caused the spikes in traffic during May, and tailor/create more content around whatever it was in May and focus on that.
For Facebook, all of this information is available under your "Insights" tab on your Facebook Page.
The best metaphor for all these metrics and "stat info" would be a Bakery.
A bakery runs a "Sales Report" and finds out Donuts were the best seller for the past coupl weeks, followed by cupcakes, then cakes, and pies.....
That bakery should look at how they can offer more donuts, refine their donut-making practices. Maybe it's because donuts are small and portable, maybe it's the season, whatever the cause, it looks like their handheld treats (donuts, cupcakes) are best sellers. Maybe the bakery should try a few brownies too, since brownies are portable. But whatever the bakery decides to do, it should DEFINITELY NOT make more pies.
