My First Knit Socks!

So....about 6 months, a crazy life, and much procrastination/frustration later.... I have completed my first pair of KNIT socks!

Honestly, every time my friend's Liz and Deva get to knit with me (which, unfortunately, isn't that often), they are trying to teach me to knit socks.  It's a different animal, seriously, and no matter what book I buy or who I talk to, I have a terrible time getting my head wrapped around the concept.

So, I decided to start really easy.  One of the things I had trouble with was Knitting with Circular Needles.  So, I axed that, and picked up a pair of Size 7 Double Pointed Needles.  Next, since I naturally have weird gauge with Tiny yarn, I picked up some worsted weight yarn that I knew I wouldn't get sick of if I had to work with it for a long time.  I picked up Malabrigo Worsted... And of course, it's Ravelry Red.

I knew there were worsted or sport weight sock patterns out there, but I settled on Aileen Cahill's "Irish Wellington Socks".  This is a nicely written, free pattern available as a free download on Ravelry (Click on the link to go directly to the pattern page for download and more).

I like it, and the pattern makes sense to me.
Having a pattern make sense to me after reading it twice is important, and I'm getting to the point now where if I read a knit or crochet pattern and i can't understand anything past the first 5 or 6 steps, I give it two more chances, and chuck it out the window.  Look, I already know I'm gonna mess up a pattern a couple times, and I don't need difficult writing or problems understanding the pattern creating more mistakes than I'm already gonna make, blargh!

I like my socks.  I know they look a little odd, but these socks are super soft (Thanks to Malabrigo Yarn), and very, very warm.  I might try to find a sturdier yarn right before fall, and make a couple for Christmas, and myself.

Thanks for reading everyone!
