Blackened and Reddened with Mystery ....
While walking through our run-down, Historic Neighborhood, Bender decided he wanted to treasure hunt again. On an Empty Lot, he started sniffing around, and then started digging up a burrow. He didn't discover any critters, but he did kick up a whole bunch of stuff on me. Including... This:

Yeah, I cleaned it up a little bit, but when he first pulled it up, I wasn't sure what to make of it. Historic Cradock was the "First Planned Community", planned around the local Shipyard and Trade Industry, so there were a lot of welders, metal workers, and tradesmen living in the community. But this was so curious looking, I brought it home. It looks like a big hunk of melted glass, old glass, but I'm not really sure. The empty lot my Dog and I were playing around in was empty because the house on the lot burned down in the 40's, and stood empty ever since. Maybe it's something that burned in that house? Wow, that's...kinda spooky!
All I know, it's chippy, crusty, old n' dirty, and a Deep Slate-like Black you can gaze into, and I like it. I wonder if it's molten glass, or possibly "Slag" (But isn't Slag Metal)? Or is it just a big ol' rock that just happens to look cool?

As a few people know, I've been putting most of my Vintage Collection for Sale on Etsy, and practicing a "culling down" and somewhat Smart-Shopper attitude. I feel like it's time a lot of my stuff found a new home. And since my long-term goal is to eventually relocate down to Black Mountain, North Carolina, I've been putting the sales into an account to save for that Black Mountain Dream. I've held onto a lot of stuff since I was a teenager, as I was a Picker/Junker/Thrifter back then too!
I was sorting through and organizing my Vintage and Shabby Clothing and found this:
I've held onto this NanFlowers Vintage Slip with dip-dyed Scarlet Lace (and another one) for the longest time, and I'm not too sure why.
I think it's the embroidery, or the Mini-pleats at the bottom. Or that the lace was dip-dyed a very dark, deep, scarlet.
It fits, very well, and I would wear it...Maybe. If I were a lovely Shabby Gypsy Waif, I certainly would wear this out on the Town. But:
1. I think over the years, I've gotten a lot less "Brazen" and Bold. I'm finding I'm wearing less of my high-cut skirts, and a whole lot less dresses (which might be another blog post soon...hrm...)
2. I have one of those figures where if I put this on, it would be Obscene! Even with another slip underneath or a liner, it's very Bourdoir.
So, I started to think, How could I pull this off, if I got the Courage to wear it?
Ah-ha! A Jacket!
I have a handwoven jacket from Chile, handcrafted by an Artist named Quedicha on Etsy. She actually constructed it to the dimensions I sent her, and about a month later, Bam! I love the Elf-like Hood, and Bell Sleeves! Since I love Vintage, and Handmade, it's a great match. The colors, in the correct lighting match up very well, and the contrast between the soft, delicate slip fabric and the rough, rustic burlap weave in the jacket are completely eye-engaging.
I guess I have a thing for Black, and Red, because one of my recent Thrift Shop Scores was a lovely Retro Velvety Red Blazer....
Though I'm not sure I've got the nerve to wear this little number in Virginia Weather November, and I have no idea what that Hunk of Shiny Substance is.... Both of my Black (and Now Reddened) beloved treasures get my Vintage Black Stamp of Approval!

Thanks for sharing it--found you through Frou Frou Decor.
Being a child of the '70's, I have tons and tons of crystals, most of which I have no idea what they are or what they're used for. ;) I just enjoy them and when I don't, I let them go find another home.

I showed my boyfriend the outfit, he said it actually looked really nice, but a little too thin, lol... I might see what I can do about finding something to go underneath it!
