Getting back in the Hook Saddle (Crochet & Vintage Yarn Finds)

Sweet Sugary, Creamy Coffee, with a Frosted Treat - My Kryptonite

For several months there, I seem to loose my ability to concentrate, and it was related to my health and diet.... It really started to frighten me, but working with my doctor, and watching my food sensitivities, I've started to get better, and my concentration/comprehension has started to improve...

I love Tiny Crochet.  Threads, Doilies, Lace.  I love it all.  I seem to be on the extremes, I like Bulky weight yarns, and Tiny yarns.  Come to think of it, unless it's dishcloth cotton, I have very little worsted weight yarn in my Yarn Stash...

A while back, I discovered some really neato Vintage Cotton Crochet Thread at the Thrift Shop.  A couple days ago, I found more, some random recent Aunt Lydias Rag Looking Thread, and some super neato Knit-Cro-Sheen, that coordinated with one of the Balls I discovered earlier!

I decided to play around with the stuff, but was actually worried that I wouldn't be able to figure out what to make or how to make it.

Luckily, I came about a little Lacy Doily Coaster pattern, and decided to get my feet wet.  Created a bunch of these cute little coasters in just one morning:

I'm not sure if it's the new diet, the change in the seasons (the past couple of summers have just been unbearable), or just the realization that I haven't finished many projects this year, but this small set of coasters invigorated me to create more dainty, elaborate projects.  I've got one more coaster's worth of yarn left on the Thrift Shop Thread for the yellow coasters, and I've already cranked out 1.5 doilies.

Since I have regained some Thread/Lace/Filet confidence, I decided to spend all day today working on a very elaborate shawl that I've always wanted to make. This shawl was my original Holiday Gala idea, months ago, but alas, I couldn't figure it out when I first got the shawl and pattern.

I love the Teals and the Sheen of this yarn (Blue Heron Yarns Egyptian Cotton), and the only reason I bought it was because of the soft feel and shine, but I'm not sure if it's gonna show well on this shawl.  What do you think?  Maybe I'll wake up early with my new-found energy and try to find some good Crochet Thread from the Thrift Shop?

I'm a 71 year old crocheter of doilies, lace, anything with fine thread. Just thought I'd caution you about something I discovered along the way. The older threads and their wonderful colors are becoming scarce, and you are so very lucky whenever you can find some. Before using it, however, be sure to test it for strength. If it breaks easily, it's probably rotten and shouldn't be used. Those are the ones you'll want to put up on a shelf to admire - or use as part of a crafty project. I once made a lovely tapestry crochet potholder, only to find out afterward that one of the colors pulled apart at the slightest yank. So beware!

Your blog is wonderful!!!
