What to do with Wool...

Since I'm using the destroyed remnants of my Failed Recycled Sweater attempt to repair my friend Erik's sweater, I've started to wonder what to do with some of the left overs.  I don't want to trash 'em, it's Cashmere!

So, I've been working on a couple of things to do up with the strips, and decided, "Hey, I've seen a lot of Shabby Chic, Gypsy, and DIY Artist type Cuffs, Let's Make one!"....

So, this is where I'm at so far...

The pic above shows how my Felted Sweater section looks in comparison to the sleeve remnant I didn't felt.  I Decided to Felt/Full the Cashmere pieces so that I could have some tight, even edges, and also a solid piece of fabric to work with...Well, After two cycles, you can't really tell the difference, except that the bottom piece (the Fulled/Felted part) has slightly better Stitch Definition.

I am totally digging a lot of the Felted Cuffs I've seen on Etsy and various blogs, so I'm hoping with the random pieces I've got, and some random creativity, I'll come up with something.

In the Meantime, I'm still plugging away at the holes in Erik's Sweater....Erik said that the holes might be due to Moths... Moths are Monsters!  And they seem to be prevalent all across the United States.  All this working with Yarn got me thinking about ways to keep the Moths away, and help Erik Save some Money so he doesn't have to keep coming back to me and buying me a ball of pretty yarn to fix his sweaters...

I've had these crazy colors of KnitPicks Palette  Wool yarn for a while now, and I can't seem to use them up, it's like a never ending supply of Fingering Weight wool yarn... So, I decided to make some Felted Ball Sachets!

These are super easy, and don't take any needle crafting skill.  I simply rolled some Sachet contents in yarn, and wrapped the yarn tightly, then Felted/Fulled the balls in my Washing machine...Most of these I decided to Full/Felt as much as possible, and the lighter grey ones I let felt just enough to stick together to form a mass, but still have the "Yarn Ball" look to them, which I think is kinda cool.

They're kinda fun, in a mindless, watch a Marathon of your Favorite TV Show way... Though there are plenty of tutorials online, I might come up with one to share with you guys soon..

Once Felted, these little guys are awesome as Decor (All my Vintage Friend seem to have bowls full of Sea Glass or Random Round Balls, but Since I love Yarn, these work good too!), play things (without the cedar middle), and as "Moth Preventation"!  A great way to keep your sweaters safe, I'll be cranking out a few more (like the ones you see above have not been fully felted/fulled).  You can also put a drop of Lavender Oil or a Fragrance Oil within the inner layers, dampen a pair lightly, and throw them in the Dryer.  Instant Dryer Balls with Refreshing Scent and Statitc removal!

I hadn't felted in a while, but they turned out pretty good.  And they have a lovely smell of Lavender, Cedar, and Rose!

While I was on the Wool/Washing Machine/Felting kick, I used some of the Sweater Remnants!

Check it out!  I stuffed it full of cedar, and hopefully, if any bugs decide to sneak into my yarn room, they'll attack this frilly, girly, and buttony Sachet!

So, wish me luck, I'll be working on Erik's Sweaters, and hopefully a few more Wool and Cedar "Dryer Balls"...

I've never felted, and have really been intrigued with it lately. I love your idea of stuffing the little pillow with cedar. Very ingenious! I really love that cuff you did with the buttons and gray trim. Quite striking. You are one crafty lady!
