White Wednesday - The Porcelain Doily
It's so strange, I wanted to start participating in "White Wednesday" with the Faded Charm Blog, but very few items in my collection are true "White". And most of them, are new (They're all Old/Vintage/Antique, but they are new to me, Lol!)
I've always been into darker colors, Charcoal Grey was my favorite color for years. It wasn't until I started crocheting and getting into Arts and Crafts that I started to incorporate real colors into my life and wardrobe (mostly my clothes). Unfortunately, this left most of my Home Decor "in transition", floating between Reds/Blacks/Silvers, or temporary Asian decor.
When I started dating my BF, and we combined households, his colors were more Natural and Neutral (creams, sage, beige/tan). The stark contrast made me realize I had grown out of my Reds and Blacks years ago, but still didn't have what I liked truly worked out.
Well, I like Doilies. I've always secretly liked Doilies because of the super tiny stitches they are made out of. Before I learned to crochet, I seriously would stare (impolitely) and needlework and doilies sitting on counters, tables, dressers.
I found this cute little vintage Oleg Cassini Candy Dish at a Thrift Shop, for next to nothing! I think it kinda reminds me of the transitional phase I'm in. Delicate, Shabby, Intricate, and Unique.... That's what I want to fill my home with.

I've also just recently started collecting fragile items, like candy dishes, bowls, cups, random antiquated MilkGlass. I consider myself clumsy, and have always thought of myself as a "Bull In a China Shop", especially when I'm in the tiny Antique Stores here in VA. But I realized something.... If an antique of vintage item I have has lasted this long, through all these years, and is still okay, then it's certainly going to be okay around me for another few years, ROFL!
It's porcelain, and fragile, and old. If you stand back from it, it looks like a shiny, impossibly intricate and delicate doily! It's also rough cut, with some edges in the cut-work, but detailed enough that you can see the little simple flower in it's center. Wouldn't it be cool if I could find a doily pattern just like this? Oh, Ravelry, here I come!

I figure if me and Bender's clumsy butts can own this little candy dish for more than a month without breaking it, maybe I can start buying things like Vases, light colored furniture, or maybe more little figurines?....Hrm.... Now I have to figure out what type of Vintage or Antique figurines I should collect. I wonder if they used to create little Figurine Sheep back in the day?
