A Shot in the Shabby Dark - Surprising Vintage Finds.

I've always been known for being eccentric, with everything. Colleauges (and parents) wonder when I'll start dressing my age and having an adult hair cut, my friends Deva and Liz wonder why I always go for the extremely unusualy knit or crochet projects, and my office looks like the Dungeon of a Mad Scientist Crafter more than a place to work or study. But lately, when I go Thrifting/Junkin'/Picking/Shopping, I've been drawn to things even outside my comfort zone.

Surprisingly, they've resulted in some items that are really starting to grow on me.

This pair of Seamstress Scissors aren't like the pair I grew up with in my household. They are very heavy, and Curved.

The great part about them? Look at these notches in the handle. I know that means something, but I can't remember what. If anyone would like to leave me a comment, or share what they know, I'd really appreciate it!

I'm not one for gold or gold colored jewelry at all, but both my Boyfriend and I were convinced this little Tear Drop shaped Visible Movement Watch Pendant was something I needed to "pop" on. When I brought it home, I both inspected it, and fidgeted with it. Right as I was a little dismayed with the "Shock Resistant" on the faceplate (it's awfully tiny and hard to read), I noticed it started ticking! Apparently I had wound it up to start it working. It's totally grown on me, even though I have no idea about it or whether or not it's "Old"and it has a bit of gold on it.  I'm brainstorming ideas right now to re-purpose it into an elaborate steampunk necklace piece to wear for a special ocassion.

Hideous Cats? Check. Got 3 of 'em. These little Soup Bowl Guys are awfully happy to have you sticking a spoon in their heads and eating the contents. Kinda Creepy. And this Bubble Bead Brooch has a face even a Mother would shriek at.

Well, that's my little odd collection of items from this weekend.  I hope you dig them as much as I do!  Take a chance, go out on a limb, and go grab something Oddly Out of the Ordinary!

Those notches in the scissors are odd: I'll ask my MIL who is in her 80's...

Hey Nancy! Thanks for checking my post out. If your Darling MIL has any info on them, it would be much appreciated. I talked to one of my sewing friends, but she can't remember what the notches mean either, lol!

awe! Hey Thanks Rebecca, this one is actually made of inexpensive silverplate from about the 70's, and I plan on listing it for sale tonight on Etsy. You can get a really affordable one at most Halloween stores or online. But, if you'd like check out my Etsy store, and I'll have it up by tomorrow morning!

I've no idea what the notches mean...maybe how many times they've been sharpened? But that's only a guess, and I can't imagine defacing a pair of scissors for such a reason. I was going to say something sarcastic and macabre like how many husbands have been stabbed with them...Well,I guess I just said it! ;)
