My First Silver Sunday - Hummel, Vintage Crochet Love, & Well Traveled VW Bus Logo
Since my blog is a little diverse in interest (Crafts, Crochet, Vintage, Photography, Antiques, Jewelry, phew! the list goes on), it's really cool to share some of my Favorite Things, and also match up wonderfully with a few of the popular blogging themes in the Blogosphere.
The Gypsy Fish Journal hosts "Silver Sunday" 2nd Sunday of every month. The Gypsy Fish is a fantastic Vintage/Shabby lover and also a Handmade Artist, just like me!
I'd like to share my little Silver Sunday with ya'll!
Here's some lovely Silvers, Metals, and Monochromatic Photography Love for your viewing pleasure.
Some of the most important things in my life right now are my Boyfriend's VW and restoring it, Crochet, and my starter collection of Vintage Finds, primarily, Silver and Collectibles.
This is the VW logo off the front end of an old 70's VW Bus. My boyfriend picked it a while ago, and now that we have really had a chance to restore his '77 VW Bus, he's silver coated it, and it's awesome. Tarnished, Chipped, Ancient, re-coated and still Traveled looking. Right now he's debating on whether or not to put this proud symbol on his Bus, or to put something on the front that's a little more subdued. I absolutely love it, but so many people out there stumble upon a VW Bus and assume it's free to mess with or worse, "pick". It doesn't matter if your VW is in perfect Restored Condition, parked in front of a meter in a busy city, or rusting away in a barn, VW stuff is well sought after, and original items like this are rare. If you'd like, check our progress on the '77 Bus at his blog, CheapGeek.net, or check out our cute Restoration and Thrift Shop Find Videos on Youtube.
I have two awesome friends, both named Deva, and their Mother & Daughter. Deva "Sr." (lol!) is a beautiful gentle soul from California, and is every positive stereotype you can imagine of a Free Soul from Cali. Deva gifted me some wonderful Xmas Ornaments last year, and a little after that, this wonderful little Hummel Cup in the shape of a Thimble. It's perfect to put my Vintage Crochet hooks in!
I really don't have any information on this cup, but it's rather unique. It's amazing how detailed it is, and it's still got a Maker's sticker on the bottom.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE Vintage Crochet Hooks and Knitting Needles. Crochet Hooks are a little more rare (at least around here), as many were made out of steel and melted down for the war, or they were made out of bone/whalebone and are now super collectible Antiques, or beat all to heck. The Boye ones in the picture above are super neat, as Boye is in quotations, and check out the price! 45cents! If I need a new hook, or misplace one of the hooks I use, it's $2.19 at the craft store. Inflation, I guess! A long time ago, a fellow Antiquarian told me the price on certain metal items was more of the "Melt Price" value, since war shortages required a reduction in the use of materials. Their example was a crochet hook. A crochet hook shoulda cost 15-30 cents around WWI/WWII, but during the war, the value of the metal was printed on them.
Well, I hope everyone liked my Silver Sunday, and I look forward to participating next month!

welcome and Happy Silver-Sunday! I really enjoyed your story about The VW sign. Even here in Germany, where the VW sign is very common, people break such signs from the cars away and steel it. Not so much the VW signs but Mercedes stars and other ones. You can buy such VW signs also at ebay. So keep the real one at home and put a new one on the car.
Your crochet hooks in that beautiful Hummel beaker look very nice. Some people collect also antique sewing, knitting and crochet utensils and this are always lovely items. I really enjoyed your post and hope, you will participate again next months.
Greetings, Johanna
Yeah, we are worried someone might rip off the VW Logo for the front of the bus, and still trying to figure out what to do. Today we are going to be installing some of the hardware for the inside!
The older Crochet Hooks are so neat. Get a hold of one (maybe a slightly less collectible one), and try working with it a little bit. You'll have a greater appreciation of needle-craft from the past (lack of glide/smoothness)!

Such a fun Silver Sunday post! Love the VW emblem! I've always wanted to learn how to crochet. I'm a new knitter, so maybe once I get more comfortable with that, I will give it a try. Very cool SS!
Have an awesome day!
