Blue Monday - I Crocheted, I Painted, I Conquered (Re-purposed)!
This weekend my BF did an awful lot of painting, and though I'm not a painter by any means, I was inspired to do a little bit as well!
I've had a little spice rack that I took all the cool glass bottles and put some handmade Organic Bath and Body Shower Gel in, but I could never bring myself to throw away the little Spice Rack. It was cute, but kinda dull and brown.
I painted a layer of Slate Blue, and then Dry painted with some Robin's Egg and White.
Now I have a cute little home for my Vintage, Crochet, and Needle Felted Menagerie!
Aren't they cute? I'll have to introduce you to each one of them sometime in a later blog post.
I had some left over paint, so I decided to decorate a little Heart Paper box i've had sitting around as well!
I STILL had plenty of White, Robin's Egg, and a different Blue, and since an old Magazine Holder has been sitting in my garage for months, I decided to get even more creative.
Now that I painted it, I sat for a while staring at it. It's pretty, but does anyone really want a big ol' Artistic Magazine Holder? It's kinda bulky, and most of my magazines and glossy cover books would slip through that bottom section.
However, if you just turn it upside down, it becomes an awesome little Kitchen Towel Rack and Shelf!
Kinda Cool, huh? I really, really like how some of the dish clothes I crocheted this weekend either matched it perfectly, or coordinated with the overall blue tones splashed/"slapped" on there. I'm super proud of myself for coming up with a way to repurpose a practical item into something that is also practical, and charming! Now if only I had some shabby blue Handmade Tea Towels to hang from here... NOT ANOTHER HOBBY!
I'm currently working on a little Xmas present for BenderOak and the VW Bus. Since the Bamboo Paneling has been put in, I thought it would be a good idea to make Bender a new Dog Blanket.
The pattern is from 201 Crochet Motifs, Blocks, Projects, and Ideas by Melody Griffiths. You can find it on Ravelry Here. With the way things are going crochet-wise, it'll prolly be done NEXT Xmas.
I'll be posting some tips regarding painting and getting the cool look to the Spice Rack and the Tea Towel Holder/Magazine Rack tomorrow!
