Hurricane Preparedness, care of.... the Thrift Shop?....

Hurricane Earl might be stopping near my doorstep in the next couple of days...

My BF has posted a couple of amusing (yet useful) tips over at The CheapGeek.net  Blog...

It's odd how most people are walking around are not too concerned about it, yet the Weather Channel and news broadcasters from Major Cities are freaking out about it.  I think it's funny how the Weather Channel never seems to involve/mention Virginia in anything.  We are never mentioned in any of the Projected Southern areas Weather Forecasts, nor any of the Middle-Atlantic Forecasts, it's always the Weather Person or Meteorologist's hand just gradually sweeping over my state as he moves on to whatever is happening in S.C. or even Florida.  Unless there is a Hurricane.  And then we get a quick mention while the Meteorologist casually strides down some beautiful beach, in the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

The last seriously scary "Male" Hurricane I remember that had a Vowel starting it's name was Hurricane Andrew, and that really messed up some people I know in other states.  We aren't sure what's going to happen to Virginia (thanks Weather Channel), or even the upper sections of coastal Carolina, but it's important to start being prepared.

So....Please make sure you stock up on clean water:

Make sure all your treasures are safely stored:

And Be sure to bring plenty of..."Essentials":

When I first found this, I had no idea what it was....Then I spent THREE MINUTES trying to open it and realized what was inside: TOILET PAPER.

I'm pretty sure it's for camping, but if Hurricane Earl does come, and we get flooded, this fairly light-weight, well-crafted wood cylinder should keep my Toilet Paper safe (?!?!).

I'm gonna look this thing up, because it's so odd, I don't know why or who would have invented it.  Oh, and the terrible thing?  I can't seem to open it up all the way, care of the Chinese Finger Trap of a confusing, Mystical Leather Tie and Bead on the straps!  I'm not sure how you would refill it, much less, safely use it in the Bushes while camping, or up to your ankles in 50 mph winds during a Hurricane...Terrible.

You can't make this stuff up folks...Travel/Emergency TP.

Thanks everyone for your comments, and hopefully this won't be a serious storm!

I'm in Idaho and even I've heard forecasters ominously mentioning the possibility of a worse situation than Isabel. I was still there for that one: had 3.5 feet of contaminated water flooding my backyard from the Elizabeth River, and I was not in a flood zone. Sure hope those folks from Detroit that bought our house on Lancing Way have flood insurance....

ROFL... From what I remember, there was a Nor'Easter about two years ago, and due to some erosion next to yer old neighborhood, the front of that area flooded!!! The forecasters have already freaked out, but it's almost 3am here, and nothing's really happening (famous last words).... We went out and bought a bunch of water, batteries, and even a couple of snacks. If it does storm, we're gonna clean our house, lol!
